Features

Everything is written from scratch: the boot loader, the kernel, the graphics, the sound driver, the music player and the chess engine.

Its own boot loader

Two small assembly programs take the PC from the BIOS to 64-bit mode and load the kernel.

8 ways to look at the board

Four views from above and four from the corners. The pieces are ASCII art, programmatically drawn from 8 directions in 3 sizes.

A real chess engine

Alpha-beta search with a hash table and tuned evaluation. The strongest opponents play at roughly 2450 Elo.

Opponents with faces

22 characters from 200 to 3000 Elo. They greet you, taunt you, look scared when they're getting mated, and laugh when they win.

Music

A built-in MIDI synthesizer plays Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Grieg and more through the AC'97 sound card (or the PC speaker).
